ABOUT TIMMY GLOBAL HEALTH

HOW IT STARTED

Timmy Global Health (formerly the Timmy Foundation) was founded in 1997 by Dr. Charles Dietzen, a pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist from Kokomo, Indiana. After working in many international settings, including with Mother Teresa in Calcutta in 1996, Dr. Chuck was inspired to broaden his commitment to fighting health disparities around the globe, while helping to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals and leaders to do the same. The organization was named after Dr. Chuck’s brother Timmy, who passed away in his infancy. Timmy Global Health is a legacy to both Dr. Chuck’s brother and family, as well as a tribute to all the families, communities, and patients around the world that deserve quality healthcare and the promise of healthy futures.

OUR MISSION

We believe all people, regardless of who they are, what resources they have, and where they live, should have access to quality healthcare. Timmy strives to make this vision a reality by strengthening the capacity of local health systems through short-term medical service programs and long-term health solutions.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

As a chapter, we fundraise to support the work of our international partner and the patients we treat on our medical brigade. The money raised goes towards patients’ referrals, which allows Timmy to pay for additional testing, treatments, surgeries, and transportation to the hospital/clinic, as well as other health interventions and initiatives, such as our nutrition program in Guatemala, a safe water initiative in the Amazon Basin, Ecuador, etc. Our Timmy chapter will visit the Amazon Basin in Ecuador in September 2018 to set up clinics to provide consults, treatments, medications, and basic lessons on disease prevention to native Ecuadorian people who live far from major hospitals or health care systems. Our chapter also works to eliminate health disparities at home by volunteering at mobile clinic around Los Angeles once a month.
